the guys were all in such fabulously dapper clothes (yay time travelin') that i have so many accent shots of everyone's outfits. but they're not too good, so i'm just going to keep them to myself.

one did turn out though (pictured), of tom's boots and my favourite of the night, which i call: the sweatpant-trousers. because they're trousers, with that sweatpant cuff.

i also think we became friends by the end of the night ahaha.

the final product for my (lighting) still life assignment. i have an inexplicable fascination with food still lifes. also, this idea spawned from the ruined (a.k.a. over-boiled) eggs pictured. then i found a rotten avocado in the fridge, and made it my goal to achieve an unappetizing, but balanced, breakfast platter. it's balanced because it consists of all four food groups :)

a strict neutral and solid palette, lots of jersey and (beaut) draping, some patterns.
the skill + style were definitely there, but after the entire week, it really wasn't a knock-out.
loved the metal ball accessories, though. wished there were more of them!

one of my favourite shows. LINE does a beautiful job making knitwear look chunky while still whimsical and drape-y. i also thought the pop of animal print with the knits was a great styling choice and definitely something to emulate this season.

Took that photo last month with Kristina, who I met for the first time that day and was super cool. I have some more shots up on my portfolio, but I'll post it here soon, too.

The assistant gig went along amazingingly! There's not much to say except that I learned so much, and met one nicest and sweetest person I know. It was pretty awesome to learn what goes happens during an editorial shoot, and it was just great. Hopefully I'll get to do it again sometime in the future :)

This week has been soo busy that even as I sit down and watch So You Think You Can Dance (HOW WAS THAT FOR A FINALE? Love Ellen Degeneres) I'm going through photos, uploading, and emailing. I've completed a lot of things on my 'to-do' list which is a miracle because I might finally be caught up to things. Yesterday, I did headshots for a friend and they turned out better than expected. Maybe I'll post a few.

Big Brother is hilarious this season with Brenchel, but I'm Matt all the way. However, I'm still grasping onto the older seasons and am currently watching BB8 (watched the All-Stars on RealityTV a few weeks ago, it was BB day and night and it was awesome), and lovin' the Alice In Wonderland theme throughout the BB house.

This summer has probably been the busiest and most productive summer I've ever had. I've still got a few weeks left and I'm trying to do as much as I can before school starts again in September, which will be craaaazzzy.

I'm currently an intern as a teen magazine, and it's been a good ride so far. I've already written two pieces, attended Miss Teen Canada Worlds (backstage, baby!), got six free books to read and review, including the latest Gallagher Girl book, Only The Good Spy Young, by Ally Carter. I absolutely LOVE that series and didn't have a chance before to get it. I can't wait to read it, though I admit I am putting it off because I don't want to have to wait another whole year to find out what happens after :(

For the last two Sundays, I was a photographer for a trial modeling workshop here in Toronto (ran by the Universal Academy of Acting) and that was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot from working with a diverse group of people, as is the case now since I'm starting to actually do portfolio work with people that aren't already my friends. What's super exciting is that tomorrow, I'm going to be a photo assistant in a studio which is right next to the building the modeling workshop was in!

I seriously need to revamp this blog. Something about it just isn't clicking with me. I want to showcase my photography here as well, along with inspiration and fashion stuff. We'll see how that goes :)

One of the best movies I've ever seen. The storyline, the visuals, and the actors were all top-notch and it was just brilliant. I was literally shaking with excitement and fear while everything played it out because it was just so damn amazing.

autumn anticipation

We are well nearing the end of July and it really is kind of sad. In just a few short months, the ridiculously hot and humid weather will give away to an oranges and reds on the ground and then eventually (for all you northerner's) snow. While I do love the fall, I don't love that it's one season closer to winter. And I can't ever stand winter. I'm like a bear-- all I want to do is sleep during the cold and dreary months.

But even with my strategic avoidance of viewing the Fall/Winter 2010 collections, I'm still constantly reminded that the seasons are coming, whether it be through my Refinery29 daily e-newsletters (which I recommend you subscribe to, they're super easy to read and fun) or other blogs. I can't even walk into a store now without being bombarded by knits and boots, which isn't all that bad...until I feel my wallet start calling out to these beautiful items and then I'm basically screwed.

There's still some time before I can actually walk out fully covered without melting...so maybe enjoying these F/W looks won't be so bad. Here are just a few photos to get you in the colder season's mood. It's not too much, but have I mentioned? I hold a great dislike to cold weather.

Just watched this the other day, and I really liked it. The trailer is really misleading, so if you plan to watch this: watch with an open mind.

I'm sure it was the whole secret agent/assassin plot that won me over, along with the dramatic action scenes. And Ashton Kutcher. (Can't ever go wrong with that yummy voice and cheeky grin of his.) Heigl did a good job, too, but I feel like she's a one-trick pony with these romantic comedy films. I didn't find a problem with their chemistry throughout the movie like reviews dipped in on; their witty banters and one-liners made it that much more hilarious. But I should probably say now that I'm not an overtly critical person when it comes to movies-- I don't think I've ever fully disliked anything I've watched.

The only thing I didn't enjoy was the totally unexpected and unsatisfying ending. When you're dealing with assassins and all that jazz, it should be action-packed, never boring, and with a good conclusion. It had everything except the last; it kind of felt like after putting so much effort in everything else, they slacked off on the ending. You need to be able to feel some sort of triumph over the downfall of the bad guy (or sorrow at the rise of the bad guy, though when does that ever happen without a sequel?). But instead I just sat there, confused and very unamused. If the plot had been deeper and the conclusion less lousy, it would have been a great film because the parts before it were really brilliant.

I give this movie a rating of 3/5. I love spies and espionage too much, that it may or may not be unhealthy. Have any of you seen Killers? What are your thoughts? Regardless of the fact that I didn't like the ending, I know that in the future I will re-watch it again for the exciting, action-y bits. Like Kutcher with his shirt off, sliding underneath a jet on a yacht to plant a timer-bomb.

faze magazine's 10th anniversary x conGRADulations party

Last Wednesday (June 30th-- which was also report card pick-up day and the last day of school officially) I went with M to Faze Magazine's 10th Anniversary/conGRADulations party and it was so much fun! The venue was great, and just the right size with the cutest disco ball decorations that got a lot of attention from my camera. There was a Daisy by Marc Jacobs table full of testers and gave out the most adorable daisy lollipops that tasted like marshmallows.

There was also a Vera Wang perfume table, and little stations where you could get your make-up and nails done! So cute. They had giveaways throughout the night for full-sized perfumes and other stuff, but after a while the contests got a little unorganized and whatever. But other than that, it was a great night. Alex Lacasse, Menew and Danny Fernandes performed (how funny is it that it's an all-girls event, and the performers are only guys? ahhaha ;)

I did M's hair, but you can't see it :( It has two side french braids that all go together in a ponytail at the back!

I was so happy to find a Neutrogena Wave Duo inside; I've been wanting to try it out for ages but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend my money. Can't wait to go to another one of these events by Faze! It really was a good time.

So apparently the whole military/army thing is very in right now, and why not? Great olive shades, metallics and hardware! I'm glad it's not just all camouflage prints because that would get tacky and boring in seconds. Loving this Twist collection, the dresses are gorgeous and very affordable, as are most of F21's clothing which is great since trends come and go like Canadian weather.My favourites are the one shoulder dress, the romper, and the sap greenish tulip dress.

All this talk about the new fall trends make me sort of sad. Summer has sort of just begun, and soon it will be autumn again and it just all seems to happen so fast. I wish I lived in a neutral climate, like Los Angeles or something, where it's warm/hot year-round so I can basically wear whatever I want and not have to worry about whether or not I am going to freeze to death.

Classes are finally over! I have completed 1/2 of my exams, the next one being Wednesday. For the first time in my life I studied for a maths exam...hahaha. I think I did alright; all I want to do is pass and never take it again.

Summer is my absolute favorite season, next to autumn, and I recently found this dress at Winners (a Canadian department store where higher-end clothing can be found for less) for only $20! I got a Deux Lux bag there once for only thirty bucks...was so stoked haha. It was mint and had zipper detailing; I'm not sure if UO still has it or not...

H&M Fashion Against AIDS 2010

It's H&M's first festival collection; very woodstock/coachella-esque (H&M even did a video at Coachella '10 to promote the collection) with lots of paisley and tribal prints, gorgeous maxi-dresses, and denim. If the concept doesn't buy you in, then the campaign photos featuring Josh Beech, Lou Doillon and Elizabeth Jagger might. My favorite pieces are from the first three photos: the coral butterfly tunic, the white frilly maxi dress, and the embellished neckline tank top. 25% of all proceeds go towards HIV/AIDS awareness and education projects. You're helping a good cause and getting new clothes... What's better?

oh, to be young, glamorous and girly! these dresses are like a dream, though it doesn't really make me think "couture". however, the soft watercolor palette is just beautiful, and the lace and intricate draping is just so lovely to look at. rachel mccadams even wore the opening number at the oscars, looking absolutely stunning.

happy 2010, darlings! another year has gone by and i am absolutely floored by how fast '09 was. here's to a bright year filled with sparkles, love, shopping until you have no money left, warm nights and off-days :) i love making new year's resolutions even though i don't usually keep them, and on the top of my list this year is keep active and eat healthy. my two-fruits-a-day mindset/exercise-daily-for-thirty-minutes got lost somewhere in the last few months, so i need to start that back up again...

maybe it was because december was a blur of busy for me, but i just found out about the tarina tarantino collaboration with sephora! tarina's jewlery line is just the cutest thing--so you can bet that this collection will just be full of sweetness. and for a sephora collab first: tarina and her team also had say in the ingredients and formulas used for each product! this is definitely exciting, and i can't wait for the collection to come out next month! i am expecting some good stuff... just in time for valentine's day ;)

just last post i mentioned how big lace was getting, and what do you know? MAC goes along and creates a collection dedicated to the allure of fine French lace. there are six looks already created for you by MAC, and they're versatile enough for whether you like the dramatics or not.

my favourite look is the original 'love lace' one, not only because i'm a huge sucker for anything that's within the colour range of grey to navy blue, but also since i lovelovelove the look of nude lips! the 'hypnotizing' look gives off a dreamy, flirty vibe which i am liking too.

between checking my facebook (farmville, anyone?) and procrastinating on my homework, i love to window-shop online. being broke and credit card-less, it's mainly for inspiration and to give myself ideas of what to look for when i do get money and want to splurge on new goodies. i've been seeing this for months and months now and certain it won't go away soon, i think it's high time i blog about it!

LACE!

lace was big during the fall '08 RTW season, but it's definitely waaayyy bigger now. stores like urban outfitters and american apparel have special sections on their websites dedicated to lace for the beginning of this holiday season--claiming it to be perfect for layering. not just for bras and panties anymore, it can be seen as blouses, tanks, shorts and even on shoes, adding that extra oomph to any ensemble. i'm a big sucker for lace tights (honestly, i think they can go with just about anything if you can pull it off) and it's just so fun. here are my favourite pieces from around the www:

it's raining, it's pouring

i know canada is known for being the "great WHITE north" and all, but it's nearing the end of december and there are still no traces of snow! at least not where i am. and even though i don't like snow (i live in the city, so it becomes slush, and that's just uber annoying to walk in), it's just not really right without it during the holidays/festive season. you walk into malls that are all prettily decorated and you've got those huge sale signs in store windows with snowflakes and snowmans but there aren't actually any around...it's just not right.

but what's even more not right is that instead of snow, we're getting rain. and i am a totally snow > rain person because at least you don't have to be afraid of getting drenched or carrying that annoying umbrella in your bag. convenience is key!

i was lurking around dollar store crafts (i don't think DIY has ever been cheaper) and found this super cute tutorial on how to jazz up your plain umbrella! i don't use those types of umbrellas, and mine is actually quite cute already (it has apples on it! i love you H&M) but this is a great idea. i also know for a fact that those kinds of umbys are much, much stronger and sturdier against rain+wind days and come on...IT'S ONLY A DOLLAR TO MAKE! (well, a little more if you don't have a spare umbrella around but i have dollar stores that sell umbys for $1)

such a big year for burberry: having emma watson in their campaign, showing at london instead of milan for their 25th anniversary; this collection is hands-down my top favourite of this season. the neutral palette is such a classic, but the ruched shoulders, drapery and intricate detailing on every piece made it all lively and trendy. totally glamorous and chic; the silver paillette piece (which watson wore to the show in gold) was just genius. christopher bailey is officially my hero.source.
